Abstract

Dr. Basmeena Siraj’s book Khyber Pakhtunkhwa mein Khawateen Safarnama Nigar: Ek Mutala was published in December 2019. In this critical study, the author analyzes travelogues written by 9 women travel writers from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa between 1993 and 2018. The study examines the literary contributions of Qudsia Qadri, Musarrat Jahan, Salma Shahin, Aftab Iqbal Bano, Bushra Farrukh, Riffat Nasir Ali, Atiya Parveen, and Musharraf Mubashir. Siraj highlights how these women writers shifted travel writing from a male-centered, fact-based narrative to a feminine perspective focused on emotions, cultural observations, human relationships, and social issues. The research concludes that women travel writers’ enriched Urdu literature by introducing sensitivity, detailed observation, and personal experience into the genre. Their work proves that women from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa are not only observers but also interpreters of culture and history. This book serves as an important document for understanding the evolution of women’s literature in the region.
